“LOOK MOM, TWO LEGS!” | Jannie Doodles
The puppies have decided they can’t wait for Halle to lie down. They pursue her from every angle! They wanna eat NOW! These babies are all tall enough to eat and run! Look how fast they are growing! The puppies were offered their first soggy meal of Blue Buffalo Puppy Food. I was prepared to put some on my finger and offer it to them, but NOPE! They all chowed down with no invitation necessary! I watched Halle jump in the whelping pen and she didn’t get a chance to lie down! I am amazed at how fast these babies are growing! Most are tall enough to latch on before Halle can get comfortable. She is such a good, tolerant mama! I know they have their teeth coming in and this can’t feel good! Now that the eyes are wide open, the puppies have discovered their littermates. Some are using their front paws and swatting with them. Others are experimenting to see if their mouths will fit around someone’s nose! We have a few that love the sound of their own bark and testing their growling skills. Who needs a TV when there’s live entertainment in the house! Watching these puppies navigate is a stitch! They sort of march with their front legs, and swagger to keep their balance. The tiniest fold in the towels seems to be quite an obstacle for these cuties! When they tumble, they jump up and try it again. I am so proud of these little troopers! Josh and Ivy made the long trek from Durango to Elizabeth to see the puppies. They adopted Scooter, (now Rhode), from our last litter. They love him so much they decided to get Rhode a playmate. This is so cool because these puppies have the same Mom and Dad and are just a year apart. Rhode has such a loving home! It was a pure joy to have them come and help cuddle the puppies! I’m glad Lady is responding so well to her special dinner deal! It just made sense to keep her on mama, rather than to supplement her. I firmly believe Mother Nature knows best. It has been well worth it to watch her grow and thrive, Sleep is overrated! Yes, indeed, we are seeing some bright and shiny eyeballs! Their ears are opening as well. It has become impossible to sneak into the puppy palace, and swoop Lady out of the pen without all the puppies realizing it’s time to eat! And, WOW, are they noisy! They are not scooting anymore either! Most are walking pretty well and they really know how to exercise their voices! I am thinking I need to take my earphones and listen to music while Lady nurses. All the years I have worked with children, this is hard to tune-out! Most important...

The puppies are two weeks old today and J.R. was prepared with his camera to take puppy portraits. The puppies are starting to motor around and pictures were really a challenge this time. J.R. was patient and just kept clicking until he got one good picture of each puppy. I’m so glad I am his mom because he said he would charge $250.00 for taking so much of his time. LOL! I noticed some tiny scratches on Halle’s tummy. Almost two weeks old, and it’s time to get out the nail clippers! YIKES! These are really teeny-tiny toenails and wiggly-squiggly puppies, so being careful is an understatement. Eleven puppies, sixteen toenails each, equals 176 nails to trim. Halle is so patient watching me clipping each one of the puppies’ nails. I got it done in about 30 minutes and thankful it all went well! Sweet, petite, little lady is our smallest puppy. For the past week she has earned private, exclusive dining services. When Halle is relaxed and refilled, Lady gets her own first, private session with mama. She really excels at chowing down without having to struggle for a position with 10 other puppies. She really enjoys this one-on-one time with mom. Halle is becoming much more tolerant of our other dogs. Sienna, the chocolate lab, just had to peek when I was changing the papers in the pen. Sophie, (the chocolate labradoodle from our last litter), cautiously followed Sienna into the Puppy Palace. She seemed perplexed; as if to say, “Why does this look so familiar?” Halle didn’t seem to mind having an audience as she nursed her puppies. Yes, we are making progress! These puppies are really growing! Their original collars were starting to get snug, so they are showing off their new collars. I had to be flexible and change Muttley’s collar from brown to red. It turns out he looks much more handsome in red. Snoopy’s collar was tan, and is now bright yellow. Roxanne is donning a fashionable collar in a pastel blue. Fifi’s collar is a light pastel yellow. I have a helpful neighbor who would volunteer to walk with Halle and I since she was nine months old. She came over occasionally, to visit with me, and Halle enjoyed her company. I am back at school, (until I retire in a few weeks), and she kindly offered to come over at noon and let Halle out to take care of business. As promised, she arrived and opened the door to the puppy palace. The Halle she knew was not the Halle that greeted her at the door. She wasn’t going to let her come in, much less get near her puppies! It’s fine for my...
